Hello! My name is Amer Chowdhry. Everyone has a life journey, here is my quick story…
I was a kid who could not figure out the direction of letters “d” or “b”. Born in Pakistan, to a civil engineer in the military, we moved alot, it took me 11 schools, 9 cities and 3 countries to complete my high school. I did not appreciate that experience at that time, however, it gave me superpowers of making friends quickly and adjusting to new environments.
The Chowdhrys eventually relocated to Texas in 1995, and our American journey begins.
I enrolled at University of Texas at Arlington in Computer Science and Engineering and started working in the computer lab.
Soon I was able to get myself an assistantship job that allowed me to pay for my education. I worked the night shifts at my father’s gas station and reading PC World magazine.
Sometimes, it simply takes the courage to show up. During my undergraduate years in Computer Science Engineering at UT-Arlington, a few close friends and I decided to pursue our master’s degrees. Rather than following the traditional application route, we scheduled an in-person meeting with the Dean of Engineering at SMU — something rarely done. We explained our passion for learning and requested an exception to the GRE requirement, which was mandatory at the time. To our surprise and delight, the Dean recognized our genuine commitment and personally granted us admission. This experience reinforced a belief I carry with me today: genuine interest, paired with bold action, can open doors you never thought possible.
Education has been a defining journey in my life — Today, I remain passionate about creating opportunities for others. I proudly support The Citizens Foundation, which provides early education to underserved children in Pakistan, and have served on the board of the African Leadership Bridge, helping deserving students from Africa pursue higher education at the University of Texas at Austin. I am committed to helping the next generation unlock their potential through access to quality education.
You can tell a lot about a person by the books they read. Recently, I’ve been diving into The Absent Superpower by Peter Zeihan, The Anarchy by William Dalrymple, Greenlights by Matthew McConaughey, and The Next 100 Years by George Friedman. These stories — spanning geopolitics, history, personal growth, and future forecasting — reflect my passion for understanding the world at both a strategic and deeply human level. I believe that by understanding the past, anticipating the future, and learning from personal journeys, we gain the insight needed to navigate our own paths with purpose and clarity.
I have covered several parts of the world — from Asia to Europe to North America — and even explored a good chunk of the U.S. too. And now giving this travel bug to my kids giving them a passion for discovering different cultures and places.
